Sum Studios is proud to be hosting their third Photography Lighting Retreat in Nashville, TN on September 17th - 20th, 2024. This year we’re partnering up with The Dive Motel, one of Nashville’s most unique and fun lodging experiences. They’ll serve as host for the 3 night stay, and will provide a unique and retro backdrop for our on-location teaching day.

Join professional photographers Kirk Robert, Patrick Michael Chin, and Caleb Lollar for 2 full days of hands-on training in dynamic lighting techniques that shape their work as modern day commercial photographers. This trio of long-time friends each brings a different perspective to the realm of teaching workshops, and offers a diverse set of client experiences and creative philosophies. Collectively, they have over 25 years of professional experience working with major lifestyle and fashion brands, celebrities, top tier hotels and restaurants, editorial publications, and many other consumer brands. In this rapidly evolving wave of how images are created, their aim is to use what they’ve learned over their many years of in-depth experience on hundreds of sets, to teach other photographers how to reduce the noise, and focus on what is truly needed to excel as a modern day photographer.

Throughout this 2-day workshop, you’ll learn about the essential lighting equipment needed (including strobes, constant lights, silks, and modifiers) to achieve a high-end commercial look, and have access to professional models, pristine environments, a high-end commercial studio, and top of the line equipment to build your portfolio.

Most importantly, in this small, boutique style learning workshop, you’ll have the opportunity to photograph alongside Kirk, Caleb and Patrick and ask questions throughout the two days. This is the perfect event for someone who is looking to dial in their equipment needs, fine tune their lighting skills, and take their work to the next level.

Retreat ticket includes:

  • Intimate and hands-on teaching from commercial lifestyle and fashion photographers Patrick Michael Chin, Kirk Robert Chambers, and Caleb Lollar

  • Studio and on-location lighting techniques using combinations of ambient, constant, and strobe lighting

  • One on one shooting with professional models on location and in studio
